FEBRUARY 20, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) A meeting was held on Friday at former president Michel Sleiman’s Yarze residence in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Samir Mokbel and Ministers Boutros Harb, Michel Pharaon, Sejaan Azzi, Alice Chaptini and Abdel Mottaleb Hennawi.
A statement issued in the wake of the meeting said that “discussions focused on the presidential vacuum and its impact on the work of the government and the management of constitutional affairs.”
Following discussions and coordination with former President Amine Gemayel, “participants emphasized their united refusal to succumb to the trap of normalizing presidential void,” seeing eye-to-eye over the importance of electing a head of state as soon as possible to activate constitutional work.
They stressed “the need to communicate with Prime Minister Tammam Salam, who has expressed his commitment to elect a new president as soon as possible.”
