MBD FLAT BURGLED; JEWELLERY WORTH OVER RO1,000 MISSING

A flat in MBD was burgled on Friday, allegedly by two persons dressed in abayas to hide their identities. According to the owner of the fifth floor flat, the break-in likely took place at around 6.30pm when he was out with his family. Jewellery worth over RO1,000 has been stolen, Mohammed Juma al Mukhaini, the flat owner said.

“People told me that two suspicious-looking persons wearing abayas were seen around my building in MBD at around 6.30pm. The flat’s main door was broken to secure entry,” Mukhaini, who moved in six months ago, said.

“The burglars ransacked the house looking for valuables. They broke the safe and took away jewellery worth over RO1,000, not touching other valuable items,” he said.

Another family living on the fifth floor too was not home when the break-in happened. “This shows that the thieves were closely monitoring movements of building residents. I came home around 9pm to find it burgled.” Mukhaini said there were burglary attempts in the building on two earlier occasions, too. “I have filed a police complaint,” he said.
