Matar: Linkage between presidential elections and conflictresolution is a civilizational error

FEBRUARY 9, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Linkage between presidential elections and conflict-resolution elsewhere is tantamount to a civilizational error, Beirut Maronite Metropolitan bishop Boulos Matar stated during St. Maroun’s homily at the patron saint’s Church in Jemmayzeh today.

“May the Almighty open the gates of hope before us by alleviating his wrath so that our hearts could find their right path,” the bishop added.

“Sons of the Mother Church have been characterized by the freedom of conscience and equalization between all citizens such that they establish together a nation built on liberty,” he retorted, “these precepts have been also set by the holy Roman synod for the whole Middle East to follow,” bishop Matar recalled.

“Therefore, the downfall of Lebanon as a Christian-Muslim country (God forbids), would undermine world civilization,” he warned.

” As we demand that world powers forsake us to live in peace alone, we must also emphasize on electing a president from our very core while reiterating that the election of a new president must be our own exclusive responsibility,” the bishop concluded.
