Mashnouk receives results of ecological assessment of national water strategy

June 2, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Minister of Environment, Mohammad Machnouk, received on Tuesday the results of the environmental assessment of the national water strategy, established back in 2012 in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Water.

This strategy, among others, aims at full exploitation of surface waters by improving their quality, ensuring better management and protection of groundwater sources, clearing water shortage by the use of underground water or storage of surface water, to ensure the continuous supply of quality potable water and running water that is also suitable for irrigation, and to improve sewage systems .

The strategy also identifies seven initiatives concerning the infrastructure of the water sector, at a cost of USD 6.7 billion.
