Mamberti after encounter with religious leaders in Bkirki: Pope follows up situation with great care

June 03, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) At the behest of Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, a meeting took place on Wednesday morning in Bkirki between Muslim and Christian spiritual leaders and the Pontifical Cardinal Dominique Mamberti.

The meeting also took place in the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio Gabrielli Cacia and a number of senior bishops and patriarchs.

In his welcoming word, Patriarch Rahi said that the Church pins great importance on Lebanon’s distinguished role amongst all the Arab states notably in the exemplary model of coexistence between the Christians and Muslims.

Mamberti, for his part, hailed the remarkable longstanding Lebanese coexistence formula and the exceptional culture which his Beatitude Pope Francis has termed as the culture of rapprochement.

The senior Cardinal brought to attention that Pope Francis has reiterated on several occasions his concern over the present situation in the Middle East, stressing the importance that violence comes to a halt and consecrating instead reconciliation above any other consideration.

Mamberti also underlined the continuity of the remarkable Lebanese coexistence formula and working together for the sake of peace.

“You can count on the support of the Holy See,” said the Cardinal, indicating that Pope Francis is closely following up on the situation in Lebanon with great care.

Mamberti said that the Pope hopes that all the Lebanese would contribute together with all their capacities to secure stability in this country.
