Larcher meets Rahi, stresses need to fill presidential vacuum

APRIL 27, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Paris – Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi and his accompanying delegation to France met on Monday with the President of the French Senate, Gerard Larcher, with talks touching on the situation in Lebanon and the Middle East, in addition to the conditions of the displaced Syrians, the LAF arming and the presidential vacuum.

After the meeting, Larcher said “we were briefed on the situation in Lebanon and the conditions of Christians in the Middle. We tackled with the patriarch the subject of the presidency that concerns us greatly, especially that we give major importance to the work of institutions.”

“We know that a major responsibility weighs on the shoulders of the Maronite Patriarch and France carries part of this responsibility. We made contacts with active countries in the region and will continue to do so because what concerns us is the correct work of institutions in Lebanon for the latter to maintain its message,” he said, assuring however that France does not interfere in the Lebanese internal politics.
