Karami, Zasypkin tackle current developments

June 15, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Former Minister Faisal Karami met on Monday at his residence in Beirut with the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, whereby they broached the current developments locally, regionally and internationally.

Following the meeting, Karami hailed the Russian role towards current events in the region, stressing the dire need for ending the current bloodshed through dialogue and rapprochement.

“We pin great importance on the Russian role towards finding solutions to the events currently taking place in the region,” Karami said.

Karami also ruled out an imminent presidential election, saying he doesn’t see such elections taking place in the foreseeable future.

Ambassador Zasypki, for his part, stressed the sheer need for holding the presidential elections as quickly as possible, saying that Russia considers this decision as an internal Lebanese one.

“If there is an external influence or any role of foreign sides in this regard, it’s likely to be in a limited way in the interests of the Lebanese people,” the Ambassador said.
