FEBRUARY 3, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) The Governor of the North, Judge Ramzi Nohra, on Tuesday received United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Sigrid Kaag, at his office in Tripoli Serail.
Conferees reportedly discussed the means to limit unemployment as well as the means for the UN to provide vital projects and developmental services to Tripoli and the North.
Talks also touched on the UN contribution to the social and economic development.
Following the meeting, Kaag confirmed that the aim of her visit was to take a closer look on the ground on the condition of the region and on the reverberations of the Syrian crisis.
“There are three matters that are clear to us: first, peace, security and stability in Tripoli and in Lebanon (…) second, the socio-economic condition (…) and third the presence of Syrians in Lebanon and its impact on the daily life of the Lebanese,” she indicated.
“The United Nations is presence in Lebanon to help its people, in collaboration with the government,” she said.
“You do remember that following the explosion in Jabal Mohsen, the UN Security Council issued a clear and strong statement hereby condemning this criminal act, calling for self-restraint and reminding of the importance of Baabda Declaration,” she concluded.
