Jurisprudence Council: condoning ongoing dialogue

FEBRUARY 7, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Having convened in session under mufti of the Republic Abdul-Latif Dryan today, the Islamic Jurisprudence (Sharee’a) Council -IJC- condoned ongoing dialogue involving March 14 and 8 factions contending that such encounters would lay firm foundations of stability in the country.

The IJC’s final statement read by cleric Riyad Halabi, commended the mufti’s trip to Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Qatar saying they would surely strengthen inter-Islamic relations. Clerics also paid tribute to Rafic Hariri on the 10th anniversary of his assassination and expressed support for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon STL.

The IJC called for electing a new president and deplored ISIL’s burning alive of the Jordanian pilot contending that such actions contradicted the very word and spirit of Islam. While deploring world silence at the Syrian-ridden tragedy, the IJC called to their attention the plight of several millions of displaced Syrians whose fate is a blot for humanity.

The IJC implored swift international action on behalf of the Syrians to alleviate the suffering of displaced ones.
