JANUARY 27, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Former Minister Selim Jreissati on Tuesday called for the consolidation of the Army’s military posts and for better cooperation with the Syrian army in order to face Takfiri groups.
Speaking in the wake of the weekly meeting of the parliamentary bloc Change and Reform chaired by its leader, MP Michel Aoun, Jreissati deplored the continuing war of attrition waged against the Lebanese Army in the desolate area of Arsal and Rass Baalbek, and condemned the repeated violations of the Lebanese sovereignty by organizations that exercise systematic terrorism against innocent civilians.
According to Jreissati, it is necessary to strengthen the LAF’s military posts and to cooperate with the Syrian army against extremist groups.
On a different note, the former minister rejected any influence by politicians on the judiciary and their conduct in prosecutions such as that related to the murder of young man Yves Nawfal.
In addition, Jreissati called in the name of the Change and Reform bloc to refer the dossier of the port’s fourth basin to the cabinet.
He also pointed out that “reforms are needed in Casino du Liban and all other Lebanese institutions.”
