APRIL 9, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Lebanese Forces Leader, Samir Geagea, received in Meerab on Wednesday night Information Minister, Ramzi Jreij, with talks between the pair reportedly touching on most recent developments at the local scene.
“It had been an occasion to discuss hour issues,” Jreij said, asserting that he saw things eye-to-eye with the LF leader, especially concerning the presidential file and the paramount importance of “lifting the siege off the presidential dossier.”
The Minister held the other part of the Lebanese political divide responsible for hindering the progress of the presidential dossier by abstaining from parliament sessions and torpedoing the required quorum to elect a president.
Jreij added that he had also discussed with the Lebanese Forces chief the best means to thrash out the hurdles surrounding the presidential file, fearing that the continuation of the prevailing circumstances would further paralyse state institutions and threaten the Lebanon political system.
Responding to a question on whether the Iranian nuclear file would affect the presidential file in Lebanon, the Minister said that such scenario was farfetched.
“Despite the regional influence on the presidential file, this matter remains a Lebanese affair. The Lebanese are fully capable of handling this file when they perform their constitutional duties by electing a president,” Jreij said, calling on the Lebanese to hold those disrupting elections accountable.
