Ithraa, Oman’s inward investment and export promotion agency, organised a National Competitiveness workshop at Crowne Plaza Muscat on Sunday.

The event invited local business leaders, civil servants and entrepreneurs to discuss a number of topics including education, talent, exports, inward investment, finance, R&D, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Azzan al Busaidi, director general, research and e-services at Ithraa and organiser of the workshop said, “The workshop discussed issues which contribute to a competitive environment and determine Oman’s ranking in the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Index.

“Given the strength and success of Oman’s public and private sector relationship we’ve put in place the factors required to grow a competitive business environment. We’re very much on the right track.”

H H Sayyid Dr Adham al Said of Sultan Qaboos University said, “It was clear from the discussions that attendees recognise what needs to be done in order to raise the bar and increase national competitiveness.

“To reach our targets, we’re attracting more investment and more people with right skills. We’re providing local businesses with more support, improving transport infrastructure, offering faster Internet connections and producing work-ready graduates.”
