ISF foils cannabis smuggling operation into Libya, arrests main culprit

FEBRUARY 23, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Anti-drug Office affiliated to the Judicial Police Unit managed after thorough follow-up and close monitoring, to foil in Lebanon the largest qualitative “raw cannabis” smuggling operation into Libya on February 21, 2015, Internal Security Forces Directorate General said in a communique on Monday.

The Judicial police seized in the operation around 250 tons of cannabis plants, worth USD 7 million, which was intended to be smuggled across the sea into Libya within a shipment of apples.

The main person involved in this smuggling operation, who is a Syrian national, was arrested.

Work is underway to arrest the rest of the network members, and investigation in this regard is ongoing under the supervision of the concerned court.
