Interior Minister follows up in security situation following Roumieh jail riot

JANUARY 13, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Nohad Mashnouq, on Tuesday followed up on the security situation in the country after the success of the security forces in containing the events that erupted yesterday at Roumieh jail.

Within this context, he received phone calls from House Speaker Nabih Berri, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdullatif Darian, and Vice Head of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan. They all hailed the role assumed by the security agencies in preserving security and stability in the country.

Talks also touched on the current security situation in light of the security plan to be resumed in the north Bekaa region.

Mashnouq later chaired a meeting for the Central Security Council, with discussions focusing on the means to activate the security plan in north Bekaa, with the participation of the security and military apparatuses.

Afterwards, the Minister presided over a meeting for the districts’ governors, with talks featuring high on an array of developmental affairs.

Separately, he welcomed at his office the Coordinator of March 14 General Secretariat, former lawmaker Fares Soueid.
