Interior Minister confirms waste will not be dumped in Iqlim Kharoub without consensus

July 27, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Interior and Municipalities Minister, Nouhad Mashnouk, confirmed on Monday that wastes would not be dumped in Iqlim Al-Kharoub without an agreement with the region’s municipalities and civil society.

“After negotiations with Prime Minister Tammam Salam, President Saad Hariri, and Democratic Gathering Leader, Walid Jumblatt, it has been confirmed that no wastes would be transported to Iqlim Al-Kharoub and no landfill would be established in said region without an agreement with the heads of municipalities and the representatives of the civil society,” the Minister said in a statement issued on Monday.

“Abusing rumours over this matter, especially following the meeting which was held yesterday evening at the Ministry of Interior () only leads to more tension that doesn’t serve the residents of Iqlim and their environment,” the minister added.
