FEBRUARY 23, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Telecom Minister, Boutros Harb, gleefully passed on good news to the northern locals on the approval of the establishment the free economic zone for Batroun Province, as an initiative that would enhance the region’s economic and urban renaissance.
Minister Harb’s fresh announcement came on Monday in the wake of the meeting which took place this afternoon by the parliamentary sub-committee tasked to study this matter.
Harb announced in a statement that the sub-committee endorsed the project law related to the establishment of the economic zone, which will be referred to the joint commissions for further discussions prior to be finally forwarded to the Parliament’s General Assembly.
The Minister noted that the sub-committee considered the amendments which he has put forward along with MP Antoine Zahra on said project law, reflecting the concerns of those who were having reservations on said project.
“This project shall not result in polluting industries at all… It is largely a project of an economic zone for clean electronic industries in the computer field,” Harb said.
Harb also indicated that said project will secure job opportunities for the youth of Batroun, the north and Lebanon.
