Harb calls to suspend membership of Syria in Union of Arab Lawyers

JANUARY 19, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Minister of Telecommunications, Boutros Harb, said Monday in a statement that “the barbaric assault on the delegation of Lebanese lawyers at the Union of Arab Lawyers Conference in Cairo was an aggression against Lebanon as a whole and not against its representatives.”

In his words, the incident proved the hatred that characterizes pro-regime Syrian lawyers, when these men should be a role model in the exercise of democracy and the acceptance of the others viewpoint for the defense of justice and the protection of freedoms.

While condemning the attack, the minister called for suspending the membership of Syria in the Arab Lawyers Union, otherwise suspending Lebanon’s participation in the Union.
