JANUARY 8, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Industry Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan said on Thursday morning “our role as a government and private sector is to facilitat exports and not to raise obstacles before imports.”
He confirmed that one of the solutions to be adopted in a bid to put an end to the worsening economic crisis, is “to resort to reciprocity, and to put tax on imports, so we increase the chances of our products consumption in the Lebanese market.”
The minister’s remarks came during a meeting with a delegation of Lebanese – Chinese businessmen at the ministry.
He listed a series of economic indicators that will negatively affect the coming period if it continues to pace the regression, like limit of the Lebanese funds flow abroad, and the increase of the public debt, as well as the worsening balance of payments and the decline in the industrial exports.
