FEBRUARY 23, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Minister of Industry, Hussein Hajj Hassan, on Monday welcomed at his office United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Sigrid Kaag, who said following the meeting that she held “fruitful” talks with her host.
“We first discussed the importance of backing security stability in Lebanon, amid the challenges that the Lebanese government is facing in terms of the reverberations of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon,” Kaag told reporters.
“Talks also touched on the social and economic condition in Lebanon as well as on the necessity to invest in all sectors to provide job opportunities for youth and unemployed,” she added. “This constitutes an indicator of prosperity and growth.”
“Moreover, we dwelt on the importance of committing to UN resolution 1701, building on what happened in the past weeks,” she added, maintaining that facing the crisis in Lebanon requires continuity and power on the presidential level.
For his part, Hajj Hassan said that he tackled with his guest the latest Israeli violations, highlighting the necessity for the international community to mobilize to curb enemy attacks on Lebanon, Palestine, the Golan, and the entire region.
“We also discussed the issue of terrorism threatening Lebanon and the region,” he added. “I explained to my guest that this terrorism wouldn’t have grown had it not been for the support provided to it by states in terms of funding, armament and training,” he indicated.
The Minister added that the meeting also featured high on the economic dossier, and the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
He concluded that he put his guest in the picture of the ongoing dialogue between Hezbollah and Future Movement. “Dialogue is to continue between the two parties despite key disagreement over crucial matters. Yet the two sides insist on carrying on dialogue for the sake of the country.”
