JANUARY 12, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Kataeb Party head, former president Amine Gemayel, on Monday told a news conference that the current security situation in the country was “concerning,” deploring the failure of electing a new head of the Lebanese state, a step he deemed as “basic” to restore stability and activate institutions.
Gemeyal held out hope that the security services would keep vigil in order to curb the recurrence of Jabal Mohsen fresh events, expressing condolences for the families of the victims.
“The crime brought us back to a time that we wished we had overcome,” he indicated, noting some positivity in that respect, as he hailed “the way Tripoli sons faced the tragedy.”
Furthermore, he maintained that the state could not give up any of its powers under pressure, concerning the course of work of the Cabinet.
On the solid waste issue, Gemayel reminded that the party had formed an ad-hoc committee to approach this dossier. “We had courageous positions in that respect,” he said.
“Our approach was constructive and we met with a number of officials whereby we submitted many proposals that guarantee transparency and concurrence among companies,” he concluded.
