Gemayel, Papal envoy take up current affairs

June 2, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON)Former President Amin Gemayel met on Tuesday afternoon at his residence in Bikfaya with Papal Envoy, Governor of the Supreme Court for Apostolic Signature in the Vatican, Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, where they tackled current affairs.

Cardinal Mamberti was accompanied by Apostolic Nuncio Gabrielli Kacha.

The meeting took up the Vatican’s great concern over the serious presidential vacuum that affects the interest of the country, in general, and that of the Christians in particular,” as per a statement by Gemayel’s Media Bureau.

Talks also dwelt on the dangers of the fundamentalist movements that are active in Syria and Iraq and their impact on the Lebanese borders, with emphasis on the need to protect these borders from the vast military operations taking place there.

The pair also discussed the perils of the Syrian refugees’ crisis and the impact on the economic and social situation in the country.
