Geagea: Regional escalation to beget more disruption

APRIL 02, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Lebanese Forces Leader, Samir Geagea, warned on Thursday that regional escalation shall come about with “more and more disruptions”, reminding that Iran was playing its cards in the region and wagering on the Lebanese presidential file.

Speaking at a press conference in the wake of yet another failing presidential election session, the LF chief couldn’t help but express his heightened disappointment at the intentional absence of some parliamentary blocs from the 21st election session.

“Lebanon will not enjoy a healthy economic and social life at the absence of a healthy political life (…). Imposing [a certain presidential candidate] is not acceptable because there’s a democratic game that has got to take its course,” Geagea said.

As for the ongoing dialogue with his political opponent Free Patriotic Movement Leader MP Michel Aoun, Geagea said that the pair remained far from presidential talks as they were still working on thrashing out the huge political differences between both political parties.

“We have reached quite a tangible progress,” the LF leader said, asserting an intention to reach an agreement and to pursue dialogue towards this end.

Touching on Yemen developments, Geagea expressed wonder what benefit Hezbollah chief, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, would incur by lashing out at Saudi Arabia.

“If Saudi Arabia ever does harm to Lebanon, I will be the first to confront it,” he said, asking of the government to urge Hezbollah to implement state laws.
