Geagea pushes for imminent presidential elections

July 27, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) “Lebanese Forces” Chief, Samir Geagea said on Monday that “the first and key step to end marginalization which was found by the Assad regime is to elect a president”.

He added that disruption of the elections cannot bring us neither strong nor weak president.

Geagea confirmed that “the road to Palestine does not pass via Baabda Palace but the road to ending marginalization goes exactly through the Baabda Palace”.

Geagea’s remarks came at LF ceremony in Baabda in the presence of dignitaries.

On the other hand, Geagea commented on the waste management crisis and said “what we are witnessing today regarding the trash issue is a major scandal which has negative repercussions on the environmental, health and social security of the Lebanese, but what’s more significant is its impact on confidence in the state”.

He continued “Didn’t the government take a decision four months ago to address the garbage crisis according to a specific plan? How did we reach this situation today? Who is responsible for the failure to implement the government’s plan?”

Geagea confirmed that this crisis is a proof that a government of contradictions cannot build a country and cannot take a major decision.

On another note, Geagea said that “legislation is a fundamental rule of democratic systems’ rules but only works in a normal political life”.

Geagea touched on the latest security incidents in Baalbek, Qabreshmoun and Gemayzeh, saying “it is true that the Lebanese state is responsible to protect its citizens, but the people should help and rescue the victims instead of being neutral and just watching”, referring to the incident that happened in Gemayzeh and resulted in the death of George Rif.
