MUSCAT: Highlighting the need for greater cooperation to promote the culture of corporate social responsibility, CSR Oman 2015 began at Grand Hyatt Muscat on Tuesday.
The event opened with a keynote address by Mohsin bin Khamis al Balushi, advisor in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Addressing the conference, Balushi said, “This summit, which has gathered some of the largest companies in Oman, specialists and people interested in CSR, embodies the growing importance to serve and develop Omani society. As the role of private sector companies is growing, so too is the significance of the social programmes they have introduced.”
He added, “This summit will serve as a platform for non-governmental organisations and national companies to discuss the means of promoting concepts of CSR, its importance and different dimension, as well as share best practices.”
On Tuesday, the discussions focused on using sustainability to reduce unemployment, youth empowerment and socio-economic development.
Led by Amor al Matani, deputy CEO at Oman LNG, Shaima al Lawati, founding partner of Sustainable Square Oman, and Alireza Sarabchi, general business manager of Nestle Oman, the panel discussed Oman’s CSR and sustainability.
On Wednesday, there were discussions on CSR and education, youth development and corporate volunteerism.
The event concludes on Thursday.
