Derian: Any weapon used internally other than that of the Army is condemned and prohibited

JANUARY 25, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian, considered Sunday that “any weapon used on the internal scene other than the Lebanese Army’s is strictly prohibited and denounced.”

Speaking during his inauguration of a newly established mosque in West Bekaa in presence of several religious clerics and political figures, Derian vowed that “Sunnites of Lebanon shall remain people of moderation,” adding that “moderation is never to be considered as a sign of weakness, for moderation denotes a strong, clear-cut stand in the face of extremism and terrorism.”

“We as a Sunnite Sect have no private project outside the framework of the State,” Derian went on, stressing that “we are an integral part of the State, and we have contributed to Lebanon’s formation and shall be an important part that preserves its stability, security and safety.”

“From here, from this mosque, we pay tribute to the Lebanese army and security forces for maintaining Lebanon’s stability and the safety of the Lebanese,” said Derian. He vowed that “we shall provide the army with all needed support, for we do not want any weapon other than that of the Lebanese Army since such a weapon would be one of sedition, which we forcefully condemn,” stressed Derian.
