Derbas pushes for cabinet rescue before full collapse

FEBRUARY 3, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Social Affairs Minister, Rashid Derbas, on Tuesday called for urgent efforts to save the Lebanese cabinet before it collapses into pieces.

Interviewed by the Voice of Lebanon radio station, the Minister said that Prime Minister Tammam Salam had suggested a new voting mechanism that did not receive the ministers’ support.

Touching on the simmering Beirut port dossier and on whether it would be listed on tomorrow’s cabinet agenda, the Minister made clear that this matter was not for the cabinet to decide.

However, he refused claims that Tripoli benefited from backfilling Beirut port’s fourth basin, calling on those involved to take this strictly economic matter away from political debates and polemic and to allow Beirut port’s administration to solve the matter.
