FEBRUARY 16, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag on Monday met with Social Affairs Minister, Rashid Derbas, over an array of matters related to the social conditions of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
In the wake of the meeting, Derbas said that Kaag was willing to coordinate with the Ministry of Social Affairs to ease the increasing weight of the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon.
“Lebanon remains on the international map and still enjoys global interest,” Derbas said, wishing for evolving relations at this level.
In turn, Kaag said that the Syrian refugee crisis was the most crucial for the Lebanon.
“Lebanon is in dire need for governmental support to overcome this crisis,” Kaag said.
“The United Nations shall remain side-by-side with Lebanon and help it surpass this tough phase. The UN is incessantly cooperating with the public sector and concerned ministries to support Lebanon,” Kaag added, hoping that the Syrian crisis would be resolved soon so that the Syrian refugees would return to their homeland.
