FEBRUARY 3, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas on Tuesday tackled at his ministerial office with the German Deputy Interior Minister Carsten Meyer Viefhausen “the issue of the Syrian refugees and the required capabilities to meet their needs,” pointing to the burden on Lebanon due to the Syrian influx.
“Lebanon is a poor country and cannot tolerate the Syrian displacement without the aid of the friendly countries,” the minister asserted.
The minister added that the growth rate declined from 7.5 or 8 percent to about 1 percent, with direct losses of at least $ 12 or $ 13 billion.
Derbas said that Lebanon has not received so far any assistance or compensation from any country.
“Lebanon has lost its land borders and tourism, as the ongoing situation prevented the Europeans and Gulf people to come,” the minister concluded.
