MUSCAT: The Darsait-Wadi Kabir flyover and road expansion project will be completed by February 2016, authorities have said.
“The project, which includes building flyovers at Darsait, Stars Cinema, Sheraton intersection and the former Mijmar roundabout in Wadi Kabir, will be completed by the beginning of next year; probably February,” a Muscat Municipality spokesperson told Muscat Daily.
He added that while 80 per cent of the project has been completed, the part that remains is mainly the flyover at the Sheraton hotel intersection, laying roads and installing traffic signals. All sections where work has been completed have been opened for traffic. Recently, both sides of the flyover from Stars Cinema were opened. Motorists are using the Wadi Kabir flyover, and the signal near the Oman Oil filling station has been replaced.
The project is aimed at reducing bottlenecks on the Wadi Kabir-Darsait stretch. Once the project is completed, vehicles can ply on this route non-stop, the spokesperson said. The work on the flyover at the Sheraton hotel intersection is a little delayed due to expropriation and the presence of a subway.
