Cypriot plane crash: Haybe says pilot had reported a technical problem

OCTOBER 23, 2014 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) The Director General of Civil Aviation, Daniel al-Haybe, said on Thursday that the private Cypriot plane that crashed into the sea on Wednesday night had disappeared from the radar 44 minutes after takeoff.

At the time of the crash, the aircraft was in the Cypriot airspace, 27 nautical miles (40 km) from the Lebanese sky. It disappeared from the radar at 19:04, at an altitude of 8700 feet.

Haybe said that the last contact with the pilot took place at 7:02 p.m., when he reported a technical problem in the machine.
