Change and Reform bloc to boycott legislative session

APRIL 21, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) The Change and Reform parliamentary bloc on Tuesday announced that iy would boycott the looming legislative session, arguing that its schedule does not include any item on legislating urgent drafts.

“The bloc decided to boycott the imminent legislative session for lack of urgent drafts on its agenda,” MO Ibrahim Kanaan told reporters following the bloc’s weekly meeting at Rabieh, under the chairmanship of MP Michel Aoun.

On the governmental level, Kanaan denounced the failure to complete appointments. “Opposing appointments is adopted by some parties to justify extension for those affiliated with them,” he said.

“The problem gets more complicated considering the constitutional violations, which target a certain community, just like what is happening with Christians, through imposing ‘vacuum-or-mandate extension’ equation,” he went on to say.

Enumerating the violations, Kanaan pointed out at the amendment of article 49 of the Constitution in terms of the extension of the mandate of the post-Taef Accord presidents of the republic.

He also listed the current election law that does not provide the right representation for Christians.

Moreover, he denounced the repeated extension of the Parliament, in breach of article 74 of the Constitution.

Kanaan also underlined the violation of articles 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, and 89 of the Constitution in terms of the public finance.

The bloc did not fail to remind of the Armenian Genocide, calling for massive participation in the march organized by the Armenian parties in Lebanon on April 24.

The rally starts at 11:30 am at the Armenian Patriarchate until Burj Hammoud.
