Bou Saab in Washington solicits support to help educate refugees in Lebanon

APRIL 16, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Higher Learning and National Education Minister, Elias Bou Saab, on Thursday pushed for continuous support for Lebanon to help it continue educating Syrian refugees currently residing in Lebanon.

Minister Bou Saab has kicked off a visit to the U.S. and took part in a conference at the University of New York in Washington on education opportunities to all the children across the world.

“More than 125 thousand Syrian refugee children have gained access to education in Lebanon thanks to the financial support that has started pouring into the country,” the Minister said in a word he had delivered at the conference table.

However, Bou Saab highlighted the hardships a Syrian student went through to adapt to the Lebanese educational system and curriculum.

“This is how we came up with the idea of afternoon education. The costs are very high, but the results are very good,” the Minister explained.

The conference participants described the Lebanese experience as very successful and unique example that ought to be supported to help educate all the refugees with no exception.

They also confirmed their support for Lebanon and the necessity to craft a developmental plan to grant every child a real opportunity to get an education.
