FEBRUARY 3, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Minister of Education, Elias Bou Saab, called on Tuesday upon concerned people in Beirut’s port fourth basin to suspend today’s strike in order to give Prime Minister Tammam Salam the opportunity to relay their concerns to the port’s authorities to take the appropriate decision, ruling out claims that politicians have reached a consensus to fill the fourth basin.
“Politicians have not agreed to fill Beirut port’s fourth basin (…), we took a positive decision( …), and we are seeking to suspend today’s strike at the port as a positive step,” Bou Saab said after Bkirki’s gathering.
The Minister stressed that he briefed the attendees on the outcome of the meeting that took place yesterday in order to discuss the port’s fourth basin, explaining that in the absence of a president of the Republic they had to hold the meeting which includes most of the Lebanese parties including the Christians’ in Bkirki.
Bou Saab called to “list the decision on the agenda of the cabinet’s session;” thus, finalizing it would be within the authorities of the minister of Public Works as stated by laws.
