JANUARY 11, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Education Minister, Elias Bou Saab, announced Sunday that private and public schools are to re-open Monday morning to resume classes. However, as for schools located at altitudes of 800 meters or more above sea level, Bou Saab left the liberty to school administrations to assess the situation in terms of access feasibility and securing proper heating.
Bou Saab also disclosed that fuel oil will be distributed to public schools amounting to approximately 1 million liters, mainly to schools located at altitudes of 500 meters and more above sea level, being a grant offered by the UNICEF. He added that the distribution will be between 1000 liters and a maximum of 2,500 liters, depending on the increase in altitude.
Bou Saab thanked UNICEF for this generous donation “which comes at the right time, in light of the urgent need to provide heating in schools due to the extreme cold temperatures taking hold over Lebanon.”
