FEBRUARY 2, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, on Monday welcomed at Ain-el-Tineh United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Sigrid Kaag, with whom he discussed the current general situation prevailing in the country.
“This is my first meeting with Speaker Berri, who has a special major political role in the Lebanese political life,” the envoy told reporters following the meeting.
“We discussed in details the latest situation in southern Lebanon in addition to the importance of committing to the implementation of UN resolution 1701 by all sides,” she added.
“We also focused on the current political situation in Lebanon, in terms of the presidential due date,” she said. “The election of a president has more influence and importance now than any time before.”
“The United Nations is always present to exert diplomatic efforts in that respect,” she stressed, hoping that stability and security would be preserved nationwide.
Separately, Berri met with former Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Marwan Charbel, over the current general situation.
