Berri: Convergence of opinion with Aoun does not mean disagreement on strategy

APRIL 29, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, on Wednesday told the lawmakers during their weekly meeting that convergence of opinion with MP Michel Aoun did not mean dispute over strategy.

“We must all work for the sake of the people’s interests,” the Deputies quoted Berri as saying.

In another development, the Speaker maintained that there was no cover for anybody during the implementation of the security plan in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

“We back this plan without any reserve just like we upheld the plan in other regions,” he said.

On the next legislative session, Berri said he held onto constitutionality, highlighting the necessity to hold this session so as the Parliament should assume its duties especially within the current juncture.

Separately, the Speaker met today with Deputy Italian Foreign Minister, Lapo Pistelli, and the accompanying delegation, in presence of Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Giuseppe Morabito.

Talks reportedly featured high on the Lebanese-Italian bilateral relations in addition to the latest developments taking place in the region.

He later welcomed the Russian side in the Russian-Lebanese Governmental Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation, in presence of Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin.
