Bassil visits Salam, says agreement to create harmony inside government

FEBRUARY 18, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Prime Minister, Tammam Salam, on Wednesday welcomed at the Grand Serail Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gebran Bassil, who clarified following the meeting the position of the Change and Reform bloc from the mechanism of the governmental work.

“We are basically with the implementation of the currently adopted mechanism which does not breach the Constitution. If we can’t reach other mechanisms, we opt for agreement in order to disallow blocking or unanimous position which allows a person to take unilateral decisions,” Bassil told reporters following the meeting.

“Through the agreement ambiance, Ministers can create harmony inside the government,” he said.

Salam later received the current Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok, on top of a European parliamentary delegation.

The European official considered that the situation in Lebanon was very complicated due to the civil war and terrorism in Iraq and Syria, especially that the country shelters a number of Syrian refugees.

According to Brok, Lebanon must be assisted in order that its stability shouldn’t be affected.
