Bassil: Lebanon facing existential threat due to displaced Syrians crisis

October 28, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Foreign Affairs Minister Gibran Bassil said that Lebanon “is facing an existential threat that is getting worse due to the political stagnation resulting from the displaced Syrians crisis.”

Bassil’s stance came in the context of a joint press conference he held with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto who visited Bassil today at his office.

Bassil addressed European countries to combat the criminal networks that were serving the illegal emigration from Lebanon to Europe.

Szijjarto, for his part, said, “It is inevitable to provide economic support to the countries that played a big role concerning the displaced Syrians file, like Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Kurdistan which gave concern to millions of displaced people.

Szijjarto added, “It’s unfair to let Lebanon alone bear the burdens of displaced people.”
