Current Omantel Professional League (OPL) leader Al Arouba booked its spot in the quarterfinals of the inaugural Mazda Professional Cup after recording a 1-0 win over Sur in a Group D match at the Sur Sports Complex recently.
The victory helped Arouba garner ten points from four matches, while Sur has just three points from three games. Fanja, the other team in the group, has just one point from three matches.
Arouba was joined in the last-eight stage by Sohar and Saham after the two teams registered wins over Al Nahda and Al Khabourah in Group B.
At the Sohar Sports Complex, Sohar edged past defending OPL champion Al Nahda 1-0, while Saham struggled to get past Al Khabourah, winning 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.
Saham is the group leader with 11 points from five games, while Sohar collected ten from an equal number of matches. Khabourah (4) and Nahda (2) are out of contention with one game remaining.
In Group A, Dhofar is in pole position to qualify as it beat Al Nasr 2-1 in Salalah to total 11 points.
However, with Seeb defeating Bausher 2-0, the group is still open with Seeb and Nasr on par with each other with eight points and a game remaining for all the four teams. Only Bausher is out of the race, failing to collect a single point.
In Group C, which features three teams, Al Musannah is on top with seven points after a solitary-goal win over Al Shabab, which is second with four points, but has played a game less. Suwaiq has three points from three games.
