AlRai: We pray that politicians would realize the extent of their responsibilities

August 01, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bchara Boutros al-Rai, raised prayers Saturday to the Lord “to awaken the conscience and awareness of Lebanese politicians over the dangers arising from their abandonment of their duty towards the election of a new president,” praying that “they would realize the extent of their shouldered responsibilities.”

Al-Rai’s words came during his religious sermon as he presided over Mass held at “Our Lady of Bechwat” Church, marking the occasion of the appointment of Pastor Hanna Rahme as Bishop of the Maronite Eparchy of Baalbek and Deir al-Ahmar, in presence of political figures and Apostolic Nuncio, Gabriel Caccia.

Al-Rai urged politicians to “rise-up to the level of their responsibilities, to give-up their personal and partisan interests, nominate their presidential candidates and go to Parliament to vote.”

On the other hand, the Patriarch seized the opportunity to praise the Lebanese Army on the occasion of Army Day, while condemning the murder of Commander Rabih Kahil and calling for punishment of the murderers.
