MUSCAT: Having hosted some of the region’s finest golfers, Almouj Golf recently concluded its third annual Club Championships, where members faced-off for one of the most intense competitions in the sultanate, spread across 36 holes of challenging, picturesque terrain.
The tournament was open to all handicap holding members of Almouj Golf. Alan McInnes appeared to take his new title as Men’s Club Champion 2015, with an 84 adding to his Day 1 score of 81 for a gross total of 165. The Mens’ Gross Runners-Up were club captain Aaron O’Hara taking the stand in second place with defending Champion Tenzin Tsarong scooping third.
In the Ladies Division, Ex-Ladies European Tour player, Lynn Casey, stepped-up her game by adding a very fine tournament best gross 73 to her Round 1 score of 81 for a 36 hole total of 154, taking the title of Ladies Club Champion 2015. The Ladies’ Gross Runners-Up prizes were secured by elegant performances from Susan McInnes in second and Shirley Prescott coming in third.
“Almouj Golf is reputed as one of the Middle East and North Africa’s leading courses, featuring an exceptionally challenging design, there is no doubt about that; this year our members once again proved that they are a regional force to be reckoned with, not to mention their stature as some of Oman’s foremost golfing talent,” said Simon Duffield, general manager of Almouj Golf.
He added, “My sincere congratulations go to this year’s deserved champions, McInnes and Casey, who both offered a fine display of skill on both days. Further thanks are due for the sterling efforts made in maintaining our courses in nothing short of immaculate condition; I offer my continued thanks to our course superintendent Steve Johnson.”
The competition concluded at the Academy Terrace with a BBQ and trophy giving ceremony. Notable prizes included a range of TaylorMade R15 and AeroBurner fairway clubs, Project (a) and Tour Preferred X golf balls, as well as the recently released Adidas Gripmore and Boost shoes.
