Alain Aoun: We hope dialogue between LF, FPM would bear fruit

JANUARY 30, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Change and Reform bloc member, MP Alain Aoun hoped, in an interview with the Free Lebanon radio, that dialogue between the Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movement would reach a happy conclusion.

“We turned our backs to cruel and at times hurtful competition, and we hope dialogue would bear fruit,” he said.

“If this dialogue succeeds, there will be a historic watershed for Christians of Lebanon since the 90s, and I am optimistic in this regard,” Aoun noted, assuring that the meeting between Geagea and Aoun could take a while as confidence-building does not happen in the blink of an eye.

“Positive accumulations are required before the meeting.”

Separately, MP Aoun said that “the recent Hezbollah operation in the Shebaa Farms came in the context of a reaction to an action by Israel,” expressing belief that “any new military adventure will certainly draw danger and destruction on Lebanon and will not achieve the goals desired by Israel, and therefore the only solution today is to commit to the truce.”

“No one wants to turn Lebanon into a new simmering arena and we must maintain Resolution 1701 and the equation of deterrence,” Aoun argued.
