Ibrahim al Zadjali’s late strike helped Al Arouba defeat Al Shabab 1-0 at the Sur Sports Complex to consolidate its place at the top after the 13th round of the Omantel Professional League (OPL) on Sunday.
Arouba continue to head the leaderboard with a total of 29 points from 13 outings, having recorded nine wins, two losses two draws.
On Monday, fourth-placed Dhofar suffered a setback when it was held to a 1-1 draw by Seeb at the Seeb Sports Stadium. Basin Abdullah put Dhofar in front in the 39th minute, while Seeb found the late equaliser through Mazin al Saadi’s 91st-minute effort.
Later in the evening, Musannah came from behind to defeat Suwaiq 2-1 at the same venue. Abdullah Kofi provided Suwaiq the lead with a 14th-minute goal before Hisham Sopit equalised for Musannah in the 20th minute. Saeed al Dhaboni found the winner in the 86th minute.
Also on Monday, Sohar went through some anxious moments before edging out Al Khabourah 1-0 at the Sohar Sports Complex, with Abdulaziz al Hosni crucially finding the net in the 82nd minute.
In a lopsided outing on Sunday, Sur hammered Bausher 4-0 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC). After going into the break at 1-0, thanks to Ahmed al Siyabi’s opener, Sur tightened its grip on the game through second-half strikes from Tiago Olevera, Assad Hudaib and Mohammed Mubarak.
Also, second-placed Al Nasr pulled off a hard-fought 4-2 win over Fanja in a late game at the SQSC.
Going into the half-time at 1-1, Al Nasr got its act together in the second-half and found three more goals to seal an emphatic win. Kofi struck thrice for Al Nasr, scoring the opener before netting twice in the second half. Anwar Mubarak also scored for Al Nasr, while Sameer struck both of Fanja’s goals.
