HE Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Sarmi, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), announced on Tuesday that the Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC) will receive applications via the e-registration system for general education diploma certificate or its equivalent holders for the academic year 2015-16 from Wednesday until June 1.

Addressing a press conference in the ministry premises, H E Dr Sarmi said 195,445 students have been admitted to higher education institutes through the system since 2006.

He said it is expected that the number of seats available for the academic year 2015-16 will be about 30,421 and the number of programmes of study (majors) in the government higher education institutions, scholarships and grants for the academic year would reach 673.

He said that starting from Wednesday students can access the e-admission and registration system, regardless of the results of the first semester exams, on the condition that they are within the age group of 16 to 25 years. They can do so in accordance with the requirements stipulated by higher education institutes in the sultanate and the General Directorate of Scholarships in MoHE, and also as shown in the student handbook.

As per MoHE data, the number of students of general education diploma certificate or its equivalent for the current academic year is 49,874.
