SUDAN’S VAST RESOURCES ENABLE IT TO ACHIEVE ARAB FOOD SECURITY

KHARTOUM, Feb 28 (NNN-SUNA) — President Omar al-Bashir has stressed that Sudan’s huge natural and human resources will enable it to achieve food security for the Arab world, while the various initiatives launched by Arab leaders show their concern for agricultural development and achieving prosperity for Sudan.

President al-Bashir said this when addressing the opening session of the 3rd Arab Conference for Agriculture Investment here Monday. The President noted that Sudan has 175 million fedans (one fedan 0.42 hectare) of arable lands, 118 million fedans of natural grazing lands with more than 102 million heads of livestock, as well as huge water and fishery resources which could produce a huge developmental leap.

The president pointed out to the efforts exerted by Sudan’s government to establish various infrastructures, including dams and removing of obstacles affecting investment while opening the way for free movement of capital.

The president commended the role played by the Arab Authority for Agriculture Investment in the Sudan and those of the various Arab funds and businessmen.

He said the outcome of the conference would boost Sudan’s efforts to making utmost use of the natural resources the country is endowed with.
