KUWAIT, Nov 17 (NNN-KUNA) – Deputy Rector of Kuwait University (KU) for Research Affairs, Dr. Taher Al-Sahhaf, inaugurated a conference, themed “Foundations of Social Development and the Demands of the Industrial Transformation of the GCC – A Reading into Reality and the Future,” at the KU Faculty of Arts on Monday night.

The conference, being organised by the Centre for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies (CGAPS),is held under the patronage of the KU Rector, Hussein Al-Ansari and is sponsored by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS).

In his inaugural speech to the three-day gathering, Dr. Al-Sahhaf urged participants to address the issue of social development in the GCC states, from a trans-border perspective and looking at these states as a single human bloc.

“The papers to be discussed by the conference link between social development and the industrial transformation in the Arabian Gulf region, with a view to bringing the communities closer to each other,” he said.

Meanwhile, CGAPS Director, Dr. So’ad Abdulwahab said, the conference materialises the joint action among the GCC scientific research institutions and aims to develop a new methodology for tacking issues of common concern.

The conference gathered general supervisor of the Saudi National Council for Documents and Archives, Dr. Fahad Al-Samari and dozens of academics from the Gulf region and beyond.

The topics on the agenda include industrial education in the GCC, the future of industry in the GCC, and art and education in the GCC.– NNN-KUNA
