ETHIOPIAN PM HOLDS TALKS WITH VISITING SAUDI FM, SOUTH SUDAN’S FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT

Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn held discussions here Tuesday with South Sudan’s First Vice-President, Taban Deng Gai, and Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir on bilateral and other issues of common interest.

The discussions with the Saudi Foreign Minister focused on bilateral ties and the issue of undocumented Ethiopians residing in that country. After the meeting, Hailmariam told the media that Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia have a strong partnership which would be further strengthened.

The Prime Minister thanked Saudi Arabia for extending the amnesty period by undocumented Ethiopians in the kingdom by 30 days to enable these Ehiopian nationals leave the kingdom without penalties.

The two countries signed a labour exchange agreement recently.

Regarding his discussion with the South Sudan First Vice-President, Hailemariam said Ethiopia would continue to work for stability of that country under the framework of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the eight-nation Horn of Africa bloc of which both countries are members.

Hailemariam urged South Sudan’s opposition leaders to continue implementing the ceasefire agreement with the country’s government and to the South Sudan national dialogue
