QRTA, GEMS Education sign MoU

The Queen Rania Teacher Academy (QRTA) and international education company GEMS Education signed a three-year memorandum of understanding at GEMS’s headquarters in Dubai. Under the agreement, all teachers and heads of departments of Arabic and Islamic studies at GEMS schools in the United Arab Emirates will have access to QRTA’s diploma programs designed specifically for teacher training, said a statement by the QRTA on Monday. The CEO of QRTA, Osama Obeidat, expressed that this partnership demonstrates a joint commitment to prioritizing the needs of educators and working collaboratively toward achieving excellence in the field of education. “We are particularly thrilled that our expertise in Arabic language subjects and professional development opportunities will benefit a wide range of individuals and enhance their overall educational quality,” he added Dino Varkey, the CEO of GEMS, stated that the agreement marks a significant milestone in the company’s comprehensive education strategy for 2022, adding that this collaboration will provide their teachers with access to the latest and most advanced educational strategies.

Jordan, Korea officials academic, education cooperation

The Chairman of the Higher Council of the National Centre for Curriculum Development, Mohi Eddin Touq, and the Korean Ambassador to Jordan, Kim Dong-gi, discussed Tuesday education and academic issues.

Touq expressed during a meeting in Amman the centre’s readiness to cooperate with Korea and leverage the “advanced” Korean experience in education.

Touq talked about the Jordanian experience in developing curricula, the role of the centre, its work mechanism and its most prominent achievements in a way that contributes to realising sustainable human development.

Touq discussed components for future cooperation between Jordan and Korea, which was welcomed and accepted by the Korean ambassador.

Kim Dong-gi conveyed his country’s desire to cooperate with the centre in education and curricula.

TOTALENERGIES MARKETING LEBANON AND SAINT JOSEPH UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUT TO SOLARIZE TWO CAMPUSES

Beirut, 27 June 2023 – TotalEnergies Marketing Lebanon and Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) signed an agreement that aims at transforming two of the university campuses into solar-powered hubs. This joint project, supported by Farjallah Group, as an approved contractor for TotalEnergies Marketing Lebanon selected for this project, is expected to be completed by the third quarter of the year. Upon completion, the robust solar system will generate more than 1.1 MWp, with 756 kWp dedicated to the Mar Roukoz Science and Technology Campus and 352 kWp to the Huvelin Social Sciences Campus. This project will contribute to 550 tons of CO2 reduction per year and is equivalent to powering 250 single-family Lebanese houses per year. In his speech, Prof. Salim Daccache S.J., USJ Rector, welcomed this partnership: ‘It is a pleasure to renew our collaboration with TotalEnergies with a very beneficial project for campuses and institutions that are barely able to pay electricity bills and buy fuel for their generators. Ministry of Planning signs pound 50 million soft loan to support education in Jordan

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan and German Development Bank (KfW) Country Director in Jordan, Mark Schwiete, Monday signed a pound 50 million soft loan agreement provided by the German government to finance the second phase of a program to support the education sector in Jordan. Toukan said the funding is part of the education sector’s priorities within the economic modernization vision’s executive program for the years 2023-2025, as it aims to build new public schools and expand and equip existing schools with furniture and laboratories. She said the Ministry of Education will carry out the agreement in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works. This loan is part of a pound 100 million total concessional financing the German government has pledged to support the education sector in Jordan, as an agreement for the first phase of the program was signed in 2021 at a similar value of pound 50 million, Toukan pointed out. The minister thanked Germany, a strategic partner of Jordan, for its continuous support of the Kingdom’s development and reform efforts and helping it to face economic challenges, including hosting Syrian refugees. German ChargĂ© d’Affaires Florian Reindel said that providing an appropriate learning environment is the key to educational success, noting that 40,000 students have benefited from the funding allocated to building schools. Schwiete said Germany recognized the challenges Jordan faces, especially in the education sector, and supports the Kingdom to overcome them, as the funding complements existing cooperation in this sector. The German government is a key partner and supporter of Jordan in terms of developmental cooperation or aid provided as part of the Syrian crisis response plan.

Education Ministry, PSD sign MoU to enhance community peace

Ministry of Education and Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance students’ role in renouncing violence, hatred and negative phenomena, volunteer, serve the community and develop their skills. The agreement was signed by Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Azmy Mahafzah and PSD Director, Maj. Gen. Obaidullah Maaytah. Speaking during the signing ceremony, Mahafzah said cooperation with PSD’s Community Peace Center contributes to helping youth avoid extremism dangers and spread concepts of dialogue, moderation, tolerance. Mahafzah added that this joint action helps efforts aimed to counter acts that affect social security intellectually and behaviorally, voicing the ministry’s keenness to enhance cooperation with PSD, which reflects “positively” on the Kingdom’s security and serves its interets. For his part, Maaytah said the directorate’s Community Peace Center was launched under PSD’s strategic plan aimed to achieve community peace and addressing its negative phenomena by orchestrating efforts and opening channels of contact with all civil institutions, which would instill moral values in students. Maaytah noted PSD believes that concept of comprehensive security requires openness to “participatory and cooperative” relations with all official and civil institutions and support to achieve its security and humanitarian message. Under the memo, training projects for educational staff and school students will be launched at PSD’s Community Peace Center, and involving youth leaders in dialogue initiatives.
