TAAMEER, ROTANA SIGN PACT FOR HOTEL CHAIN IN OMAN

MUSCAT: Taameer Investment, part of the Golden Group of Companies (GGC), on Monday signed an agreement with Rotana to set up a chain of hotels in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah.

The signing ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism and in the presence of H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, government officials, undersecretaries and businessmen at InterContinental Muscat.

The hotel chain project is part of an ambitious strategy of GGC and Taameer Investment to expand and formulate partnership in the hospitality sector with global operators in line with the steady growth witnessed in the sultanate over the past years, the company said in a statement. The three, four and five star hotels with approximately 1,500 rooms will come up over the next five years.

Sheikh Salim bin Ahmad al Ghazali, chairman, GGC and Taameer, said, “We are happy with this strategic alliance with Rotana Hotels which reflects a roadmap for our hotel investments in hospitality, tourism and travel industries.”

Suleiman bin Masood al Harthi, CEO, Taameer, stated, “The construction of hotels like The Wave Muscat Hotel and Shaza Salalah Hotel and Spa is part of GGC and Taameer investing in this industry due to the steady growth and rapid increase in demand for three, four and five star hotels and hotel apartments.

“The pact with Rotana Hotels coincides with the operation of Salalah International Airport and completing the main stages of expansion work of Muscat International Airport, which will create a qualitative leap in the number of flights coming to the sultanate. This requires doubling residence and hotel service.”

Nasser al Nowais, chairman of Rotana, said, “We are proud to have been chosen to manage these properties in Oman and I wish to thank Golden Group and Taameer Investment for their trust and confidence. “Rotana sees Oman as an important growth market, and with our decades of experience and global expertise in hotel management, we are confident we can add value to the hospitality industry in the region and bring a new level of sophistication to the guest experience.
