Sleiman from Bkerki: Lebanon shouldn’t keep hanging on in line with Syria solution talks

November 18, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Former Lebanese President, Michel Sleiman, said on Wednesday that Lebanon shouldn’t keep hanging on while a solution to the Syrian crisis is being crafted.

Sleiman’s words came in the wake of a visit to Maronite Patriarch, Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi, in Bkerki.

“It’s high time we started seriously thinking about the situation in Lebanon, especially amid talks of a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and in the shadow of the flurry of intensive meetings at the international level,” Sleiman said.

“Everybody is in strong need of a solution, including the Syrian people, Iran, Russia, the United States, and of course Lebanon,” he added, hoping for a swift solution with minimal damage.

Moreover, Sleiman urged officials to abide by the Lebanese constitution and its principles and to head to the House of Parliament to vote for a president.

He also pinned high hopes on Hezbollah Secretary General, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s initiative, hoping it would pave the way for a solution to the Lebanese crisis.

At the security level, Sleiman said that he did not anticipate security chaos in Lebanon, but expected “a number of terrorist explosions.”
